Good For Grapes
In 2013, the group signed with Toronto-based label, Pheromone Recordings (Mo Kenney, The Dears, The Wilderness of Manitoba), and subsequently released their debut album, Man On The Page in October, 2013.
Pheromone founder, Kim Cooke, on signing the band:
"Every once in a great while you hear new music and you just know. So it was with Good For Grapes. Pheromone is super stoked to sign on and contribute to their development."
Produced by Colin Stewart (Yukon Blonde, Dan Mangan), the band recorded Man on the Page at Hive Studios in Vancouver. The record is a proper reflection of their energetic stage presence, bursting rhythms and tight harmonies.
Good for Grapes has come a long way since entering their very first Battle of the Bands (Rogers urMusic Battle of the Bands), where they surprised the community by winning the Vancouver vote. As if this wasn't enough, the competition found them winning the National vote by a landslide, making them the unmistaken National winners. Soon after, they entered Supernova's "Band on the Run to the UK" competitiom where they drew a huge and unexpected crowd, again winning the National Vote. Ever since, the young band has been playing an array of shows and has captured the attention of the Canadian music industry. The band's humble beginnings of playing in support of charities and foundations has allowed their unique sound to be welcomed by a variety of venues and audiences. Through this, they have gained a loyal fan base, which continues to grow at every turn.
In the year since Good For Grapes released their debut album, they've headlined two Canada-wide tours and played many reputable festivals and showcases, including SXSW in Texas, Squamish Valley Music Festival, Tall Tree Music Fest, and Canadian Music Week. They've also performed at the storied Vancouver Folk Festival and Edmonton Folk Fest, where they were named Best Emerging Artist in 2013.
Good for Grapes recently wrapped up their third Canadian tour, supporting their new single "Skipping Stone", which has received airplay on CBC and radio stations across the country. With a music video by Tommy Lee, who also produced the video for their song "Renminbi Tips", the band has quickly gained national traction on the strength of their debut album: a recording that captures their energetic stage presence, bombastic rhythms, and tight harmonies. In November 2014, Good For Grapes beat out heavy competition and were awarded the grand prize of the Peak Performance Project BC, earning $102,700.00 to use toward furthering their career. In the spring of 2015 they head back into the studio to record the highly anticipated follow-up to their debut album.
The Tourist Company
Their next offering to the world? Apollo, the group's long awaited debut LP.
In itself, the word Apollo can conjure up many images, the most obvious being the US space missions of the 1960's and 70's, which ultimately put man on the moon. In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo was known as the god of music and poetry as well as one of healing and truth. The themes of idealism, skepticism, venturing into the unknown, and a longing for home, all bleed into The Tourist Company's new music.
Opening the record is the achingly beautiful string and harp intro of "1957" leading into "Sputnik", where The Tourist Company waste no time in making a musical impression by adding everything from bright piano plunks to tambourines, bass synths and trumpets, yet never once sounding lost in their musical landscape. The tune carries an urgency and directness, much like a spacecraft tearing away from Earth's gravity towards a singular goal. This group isn't shying away from the dramatic either, as evidenced by "Astronaut", which features a heavy drop into pulsing bass and distorted Rhodes halfway through the track. As experimental as these approaches may be, elements of pop can be found scattered throughout, in songs such as "Sidelines" and title track "Apollo". Those who are privy to the US space missions will know that the album closing song title is pulled from the last words spoken in the televised Apollo 8 mission broadcast.
This group has built their sound and identity around the concept that outer space is more than a vast, dark space. To the band, "outer space encompasses our ideas and questions about humanity, and one's own journey and struggles.
Sam the Astronaut
Their upcoming sophomore album, Lightwork, finds the band merging their deeply rooted synth-pop, hip-hop and R&B influences with the endless sonic possibilities of digital music production.

"I came across Shawn's powerhouse voice when a close friend (and Shawn's co-manager, Barry Jorgens) sent me the music demo Shawn was working on," shares Dallas Smith, co-manager/Steelhead Music. "It was an instant... who the hell is that moment."
"We started this company with the idea of giving exceptional artists a multi-faceted home to develop and thrive," shares Alex Seif, SteelHead partner/Union Entertainment Group. "Shawn is a perfect example of the type of artist we had in mind. He has a genuinely soulful talent, a desire to succeed, and a drive we have only seen in the rarest of artists. We are overjoyed to welcome him to the roster."
Austin's sudden uprising may seem like a fortuitous stroke of luck, but he has spent a number of years honing his skills in small clubs and bars – any stage he could get himself onto. It's only a matter of time before he goes from under-the- radar musician to award-winning headliner.
Shylo Sharity is from Vancouver BC or the Wild Wild West Coast as she likes to call it, but was originally raised in the Fort Langley BC area.
Shylo has made her way to Nashville, Toronto and LA to write and collaborate with other musicians such as Meghan Trainor, The Guess Who's Randy Bachman, Patricia Conroy, Aaron Pritchett, Faber Drive's Dave Faber, Mother Mother's Ryan Guldemond, Gavin Brown (Metric), and Zubin Thakkar (Sean Mendez) just to name a few, but it hasn't always been all business, she likes to take time to enjoy some good southern cooking, 30 degree weather and a really good, extra hot latte.
Shylo has been involved in all things musical and performance oriented since the age of 5. Singing, dancing, filming TV commercials and landing a principle role in the movie School of Life with Ryan Reynolds are just a few of the accomplishments of her youth. She has performed at Merritt Mountain Music Fest, opened for Wynona Judd, and took 1st place in the duo category as well as one of the top 10 in the solo female category in Simon Cowell's worldwide online talent search, The YOU Generation. She was nominated for The Ray Mcauley Horizon award this last year at the BCCMA's, and was also selected as one of the top 7 across Canada for the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist showcase in Ontario where she had the opportunity to perform this past summer. She also had the honour to joining Jeff Johnson and Todd Richards in the recording of "Follow Your Heart", a song that was written to raise funds for the Variety Children's Charity. Along with performing the song on Global TV and being interviewed on air, Follow Your Heart is currently being played on country radio across Canada. Shylo also enjoys volunteering annually for Variety the Children's Charity where she has performed for the Variety Telethon, Boat for Hope and Red Hearts Dinners. Shylo has just landed a slot to play Sunfest's main stage this August, and is currently a part of the Canadian Country Music Association's, Discovery Program where only 6 were selected across Canada to take part in this prestigious program.
President of Universal Canada, Randy Lennox, has even characterized Shylo as having perfect pitch. Blending classic melodies with an intimate acoustic sound, Shylo's music can be described as uplifting. In the words of BJ Cooke (David Foster), "I like everything about you, even your name is col and you remind me of Dolly. Everything about Dolly Parton to me I love. She's a great writer, a great performer, she's gorgeous, she has all of it and so do you little girl, you really tore that stage up tonight."
Shylo also enjoys volunteering annually for Variety the Children's Charity where she has performed for the Variety Telethon, Boat for Hope, Red Hearts Dinner and most recently a collaboration on the song Follow Your Heart, all of which raise funds for children with disabilities here in BC.
Shylo is heading to the studio shortly and is very excited to share her debut country single with ya'll with high hopes of releasing her first EP in the Fall!
